A Therapeutic Library

 A place for psychiatric recovery

Julia and Edgar's Joint is a place to learn, to grow, to hang out and to just be yourself.

If you are having a hard time accessing our modern computerized world, You can come here.

If you are looking for help applying for services like food stamps, or SSI or rental assistance, You can come here.

If you are looking for a job or a new place to live, You can come here.

We are a program for anyone in outpatient treatment for psychiatric care.

We are all about empowerment and personal fulfillment.  At this Joint, we will incorporate technology with social services and the arts.  You can get assistance with entitlements as easily as you can find a book or magazine.  You can get help with SNAP, your job search or looking for housing. You can write or sing or paint.  Most importantly you can search for fun so you can be you.

We offer:

  • Music studio for recording and teaching patrons to use DJ equipment.  We have our own radio station WJEJ that broadcasts in our lounge.
  • Biofeedback, a type of treatment that helps you take more control of your treatment by helping you gain mindfulness and self awareness.  This will be done in the Meditation Cove.
  • Fitbits will be given to every patron for free to monitor various aspects of your health.
  • Job Search software and equipment to help you prepare for interviews in the Library
  •  Meditation room and relaxation classes three times a day using different modalities  for relaxing
  • Creative Arts Therapies including painting, collage, music groups, and of course, poetry
  • Outdoor garden and sitting area
  • Indoor walking track to think and reflect privately
  • A Library, and books integrated throughout the space

Open 10am-9pm Monday - Saturday

Located at 953 Southern Blvd at 163rd Street in the old Hunts Point Palace building

The Joint operates in conjunction with The Hunt's Point Hospital, The Mott Haven Hospital and Prospect Hospital. We are able to exist because of generous funding from the Coquito Soul, JX Hip Hop Foundation, The Bustelo Cafe Consortium, Pasteles for Peace, Synagogues of the South Bronx, Valencia Cakes, and Venice Pizzeria.*

*Most of these spaces organizations are not real, but some used to exist including the Hunt's Point Hospital, Prospect Hospital, JX is a stand in for a famous rapper.  Valencia is or was an actual business that was beloved in the South Bronx; and so is Bustelo. The South Bronx was once home to  vibrant Jewish community and many synagogues have now been converted to other houses of worship. Venice Pizzeria is a real place; sadly I have never been.   Coquito, an alcoholic concoction  and Pasteles, huge dumplings wrapped in paper, are Latino staples.
